MI-cable: Precise measurements and robust applications in extreme environments
Their robustness and precision make them ideal for applications in demanding environments such as chemical, metallurgical and energy technology. They provide accurate readings in a wide temperature range from -200°C to +1200°C. Another application is in heating elements.
Mineral insulated sheathed cables (MI cables) consist of a metal sheath, usually made of stainless steel or a nickel alloy, and an insulating layer of compressed magnesium oxide (MgO). This construction offers exceptional resistance to high temperatures, corrosion and mechanical stress. Inside the MI cable are conducting wires. These wires are insulated from each other and from the metal sheath by the MgO insulation, which ensures high electrical insulation even at extreme temperatures.
