Protection mechanisms for safe wiring systems

Safety-relevant systems in vehicles, such as electronic steering, are connected to non-safety-relevant systems (infotainment, etc.) via the 12 V electrical system.

If a non-safety-relevant system is faulty, this can, in the worst case, cause the failure of all components in the vehicle electrical system, including the safety-relevant ones. Fuses in vehicles are therefore of fundamental importance in order to disconnect the faulty system from the vehicle electrical system in the event of a malfunction.

Shunt-based current measurement

The classic fuse boxes in vehicles, which essentially consist of relays and fuses, are increasingly being replaced and integrated into zonal control units. These control units are units that can be arranged in different zones of the vehicle. Due to this arrangement, costs can be significantly reduced. The increasing complexity of vehicle electronics is also leading to fuses and relays being replaced by electronic circuits known as circuit breakers.  

The current measurement in the electronic circuit breakers is mainly carried out using shunt-based current measurement, for which Isabellenhütte supplies the appropriate portfolio.

Low initial tolerance

The low initial tolerances of the components allow them to be used without the need for initial calibration by the customer.

High pulse loads

The high pulse load capacity of the components enables the use of the smallest components with maximum reliability in electronic fuses.
