BLDC motors (brushless DC motors) are electric motors that work without mechanical brushes. They are used in a wide range of industries, from the automotive industry to medical technology and aerospace. We supply suitable shunts for precise current measurement and maximum reliability in your BLDC motors.

Advantages of BLDC motors

BLDC motors are representatives of the commercially available 3-phase AC rotary field motors with permanent magnets and are characterized in particular by their compact design, high efficiency and practically wear-free operation.

In conjunction with targeted control, they can also be operated at low speeds with high efficiency.  

The carefully developed control electronics and software follow the approach of field-oriented control (FOC), which enables low power consumption of the entire assembly and allows the BLDC motor to operate at maximum torque virtually all the time.

Shunts in control units for BLDC motors

Precise recording of the stator current is crucial for precise field-oriented control (FOC). Motor control can only be implemented efficiently, reliably and powerfully with exact measured values.

Copper coil of the stator of a brushless motor

Low-resistance shunts are ideal for this task. Whether cost-efficient on the low side or phase-accurate with multiple shunts - the choice depends on the requirements of the application.

In both cases, the task of the shunt is to measure the current precisely and pass on the falling voltage signal to the downstream control circuit.  

Components based on ISA-PLAN® technology are available in the range from 2mOhm to 1Ohm and offer optimum performance from standard sizes 0805 to 2512.
