Current measurement in drive systems contributes significantly to efficiency, safety and durability and is therefore an essential part of modern industrial, commercial and automotive applications. Our low-impedance shunts are the ideal solution for high-precision measurement requirements.

Phase current measurement in drive systems
Measuring the phase current in drive systems, especially in inverters and converters, is a major challenge.
The current must be measured either between the power section and the motor or directly in the IGBT module. Due to the high power and temperature loads, highly precise and reliable solutions are required.

Low-resistance shunts for high-precision measurements
Shunts in the range from 200 µOhm to 5 mOhm are used due to the high-power application. Outside the module, they are increasingly replacing conventional current transformers. Various components and sizes offer solutions for integration in IGBT modules. The four-pole design optimizes the TCR with a temperature coefficient from 20ppm/K and ensures effective heat dissipation thanks to the low internal thermal resistance (Rthi).

Our high-performance resistance material ISAOhm® and the large connections ensure ideal heat transfer and higher application temperatures. ISAOhm® also offers long-term stability of ±1.0 % at 130 °C.
The four-pole shunts are optimized for ceramic substrates (DCB) and feature flexible leads to absorb thermal expansion and reduce soldering stress. They offer excellent performance on DCB and IMS substrates during thermal cycling thanks to their linear thermal expansion coefficient of 17 x 10^-6 for Cu and 7.4 x 10^-6 for DCB.
